If left untreated, your Sciatica and disk injury could cause more debilitating and permanent damage.
Common Causes Of Lower Back Pain
Strain
Low back pain that occurs from sudden forceful OR repetitive motions to your spine muscles, joints and ligaments such as when lifting objects off the floor at work or awkwardly picking up your grand child, repetitively rotating your trunk such as when performing your golf swing!
Your AAA Physical Therapist can check what structures are strained and advise how to recover from this injury.
Sciatica
The sciatic nerve comes from the spine and supplies the muscles of your legs. If this nerve gets trapped along its pathway from the spine to your legs, you experience a sharp thin line of pain down your leg called "lumbar radiculopathy".
If you are having trouble bending over to pick up the golf ball due to this sharp pain that goes down your leg, your AAA Physical Therapist can advise on best exercises to prevent aggravation, minimize pain limiting function and recover to resume your favorite sport.
Disk Injury
This occurs when the cushion-like cartilage (the disc) between the vertebrae of the spine is torn, and the middle gelatin-like substance of the disc leaks out. This can be caused by sudden trauma or by repetitive and prolonged pressure on the spine. Good news is that the majority of herniated discs do not require surgery, and respond best to physical therapy.
Your AAA Physical Therapist can advise on best exercises to prevent aggravation, minimize pain limiting function and employ proper body mechanics and coach you in strengthening your core muscles that help stabilize your spine.
